Something strange happened today. Not long before I finally could've gone home from work, Tartek gave me a package which was addressed to the King of Insomida himself. It is a pain to get inside the castle and Tartek knows this - that's why I had to do it. He grinned and patted me on my back so hard with his strong hands that I couldn't breathe for one short moment. I coughed, resigned, took the package, went outside into the snow (the new boots are worth gold) and headed for the king's castle. Right in front of the huge gate I saw two Insomida Guards, who threw angry looks at me. I told them - obviously nervous - that this small package in my hand was for the king and that nobody knew its origin and contents. Both guards raised their eyebrows. I put my hand inside my coat - and in a blink of an eye they drew their swords and pointed them at my throat.
"The seal! It's just the seal," I said with a trembling voice. "To show you that I'm a valid employee of the Insomida Delivery Service!"
Mistrusting, they slowly moved their swords away from my throat, but still held them ready to cut me into pieces anytime. I took the seal out of my coat pocket and showed it to them. They took a careful glance at it, looked at each other and put their swords back into their sheaths. The left guard came one step closer to me and reached for the package in my arms. Before I could even say anything he took it away, opened the creaking gate a bit and stepped inside. The other guard closed it again and nodded in my direction with folded arms.
A bit confused, I bowed and went back to town. I expected to get inside the castle and see the king, but then I remembered that he hadn't been seen in public for a long time now and that only a few people - including high ranked Insomida Guards - may see him. And I'm only a normal citizen with a plain job - why would I be allowed to see the king ...
Anyway - I'm dying to know what was inside of that package. It was rather heavy for its small size, hmm... Eh, no need to puzzle about it, I'll never know anyway.
What else to write about...
Oh yes, Carana came home a bit late from school yesterday. She told me that her students had wanted her to explain a difficult issue again and again. She was quite exhausted, but at least the new ink and the feather I bought her made her smile.
Today she'll come home late again I suppose, as she's still not here yet and it's getting dark outside...
I think I'll grab my shoes and my coat and wait for her in front of the school.
